Our house in Southern Andalusia - Sunshine, Views and Culture
The Roca Sueca of Yunquera, Malaga, Costa del Sol
The house has a stunning and breathtaking location in what the Spanish call "primera linea", i.e. the first line of houses.
Malaga is within an hour's reach and the journey to Seville, Cordoba or Granada takes between two and three hours. And, of course, there's always Marbella, where you can sunbathe after an hour's drive!
The large roof terrace offers outstanding views of the nearby valleys and mountains. It faces south towards the Mediterranean and the splendidly blossoming orchards. You can bask in the sunshine from 10 o'clock until dusk. Or take a stroll in the orchards, laden with avocadoes, oranges, lemons, olives and peaches. Tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and other good things are harvested all year round thanks to the wonderful climate.
Yunquera was founded by the Moors, who chose location wisely - high up on the cliff, overlooking the valleys in the south and protected by mountains to the west and to the north. The trip from Malaga airport to Yunquera takes about an hour.
Wonderful experiences await the nature-lover! Yunquera is surrounded by the mountains Sierra de las Nieves with Torecilla as the highest peak, 1919 m. The mountain range is a 'Parque Natural' featuring pinsapo pines, which are unique to this region and to the Atlas Mountains.
The house is newly renovated and has all modern comforts. The temperature can be adjusted with the help of two air-conditioning units. Generally, however, the nearly one-metre thick walls help maintain the temperature at an agreeable level.
On the ground floor you will find the kitchen, the TV-room (including a DVD player), the dining-room, a single bedroom and a toilet. There is also a small balcony with south-westerly views, where you can enjoy a cold manzanilla with your tapas while contemplating the beauty of the mountains.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with a small bath tub. There is a large water-boiler, ensuring there's plenty of warm water even when the house is fully occupied.
Tap water comes straight from the mountains and is a pleasure to drink. No need for mineral water!
